A survey of Criminological Theory as it has developed from the 18th Century to the present. The theories fall into three broad categories: Classical, Positivist and Neo-Classical Period. Explanations of criminal behavior from the different periods include contributions from Utilitarianism, Biology, Psychology, Sociology and Political Science. The policy implications of the various theories are also discussed.

This is an introductory course in social welfare. Please purchase the online version of the text book. We will use two chapters per week. It is a requirement to answer the questions at the end of the course.
